| Check out what's NEW at Jackson Plaza!
Jackson Plaza is not going green, it has gone green! The north building at Jackson Plaza (the building closest to Jackson Street) has 84 eave lights that illuminate the entryways and perimeter sidewalks. Just a few years ago, these lights had 65-watt incandescent bulbs. In 2008 we replaced the old fixtures with LED fixtures manufactured by CREE LED Lighting. The new bulbs use only 12 watts of power but produce the lighting equivalent of the old 65-watt incandescent bulbs. This new technology uses 82% less energy than incandescent bulbs and 50% less energy than compact florescent bulbs. Also, LED lights have a life of 50,000 hours. Over the 50,000-hour life, each LED light will cost $60 to operate, as opposed to $325 for an incandescent bulb. At Jackson Plaza, we use these new lights about 8 hours per day, meaning the bulbs will last over 17 years!
